August 27th: Of course I can do anything, I’m a Mother-

The competence of a mother is like that of a farmer; there is nothing on the farm, or in the family, that they can’t fix.  Whether it’s a fifty year old tractor or the favorite toy of a five-year old, farmers and mothers can make it better.Farmers grow crops and mothers grow people but their age-old methods are the same; prepare the ground, plant the seeds, and offer plenty of love and light. With many hours of sorting out the weeds from the sprouts, they nudge their respective charges to flourish.

Sometimes the sprouts are unresponsive, and need more intensive attention to thrive; maybe literal and figurative supports to promote healthy growth.  And at other times changes happen overnight, the little ones shooting up whenever the conditions are just right.

Both the farmer and the mother will fertilize often, adding critical nutrients designed to coax the best out of each crop. Using tools specially suited to promote the most robust growth, the farmer and the mother enrich the growing medium to wring every drop of nourishment from it.

When the conditions are harsh, and the seedlings begin to wither from too much of this or not enough of that, farmers and mothers rush to supply the need. Both are diligent in eliminating pests and parasites, clearing the way for full realization of the potential of their crops.

When their charges are fully mature, the farmer and the mother step out-of-the-way to allow their seed to take its rightful place in our bigger world.

It would be tough, but with a little help a mother can fix a tractor and a farmer can make a doll’s dress.  But for both the faith of sowing and the joy of reaping provides plenty of  motivation to reproduce. How is a mother like a farmer?  Both can fix anything…

Your carefully drawn parallel between parent and farmer is so just…neat. I’ve a question though. Where is the pictured Moms Mom? Her daughter is deep into a wardrobe disaster. Come on Mom, the crops have gone wrong.

Ah, she can fix anything… even a wardrobe malfunction.

I’m brought out of the dumps because of your reply (was sick with worry over the East European looking Mom person on your post). Thank you Snowy, we’re friends now. Ok if I use your nick-name?
